Eat, Pray, Love…Cruise

Hello! I am new-er to Sixthman. Eight months to be exact.  Before I came here I was working for a music management company in NYC. I had worked at the company for 6 years when I decided it was time for a change. So I did what Julia Roberts did… I left my job in search of discovery and adventure!!! My plan was grand. All that was missing was the advance from my book editor.  I picked up all the travel books and talked to others who had backpacked around the globe. I was set and ready to embark on my journey.

I headed to Thailand and stayed on a tiny island in the gulf for 4 months. I did learn a lot, but failed to meet a hot Australian and live happy ever after. I quickly realized that backpacking is not for me. I am 5’2” and pretty strong but carrying a pack around the size of me and sweating in the hot sun is not my idea of a good time.  Also, I am not a great budget traveler. I lived in a cabana with a cold shower and bucket flush toilet no problem, but when it came to spending money on good food and drink I could not be stopped.

The island, Koh Tao, had so much diversity. I met people from all over the globe! The only ones missing were the Americans (we don’t get enough vacation time/holiday to travel that far). It was hard to admit at first but despite all the great people I was meeting and the delicious Thai cuisine, I felt lonely and missed the States.

Fast forward…

I am now back in the U.S. with NO job, NO money and NO idea what’s next. This is not how my adventure was supposed to end!!! It was time to get my career underway so I set off to NYC to start the hunt. My first lunch date with my former coworker led me straight to Sixthman….Andy was looking for a new assistant. I had known Andy for years. One email and two phone calls later I was moving to Atlanta!

This was my first day on the job on Rombello!

This move has turned out to be the biggest and best adventure of all. I get to travel and meet people from all over the world, but this time I don’t feel like something is missing. I have an incredible Sixthman family and you (our guests) make each day fun and interesting.

I say you can do it like Julia or you could do it like me and CRUISE!!

Disclaimer 1: I read the book first and then saw the movie a year later. Always book first and then the movie. If I see the movie then I won’t read the book. Hence why I have never seen a Harry Potter movie because I am promising myself I will sit down and read them all one day.

Disclaimer 2: I am a foodie and in the future will talk about it food a lot more. For now just know Thai is probably my favorite. I get take out at least 1-2 times per week. I need a noodle dish and a curry on a regular basis.

Pursuit of Happiness! :) You made me realized that it is okay to risk your job right now rather than staying there and leave your dreams hanging. Sometimes we need time to travel, to relax and to discover.
