1) You marry the love of your life and want to share their family name
to show you’re committed and devoted.
2) You were born to parents who may have been too good of buddies with
Mary Jane and swore the voices told them to name you Rainbow Sunshine
Happytree. You change your name to Jane Smith on your 18th birthday,
hug your parents and move on with your life.
OR
3) You did something you need to hide from. Maybe something you’re
ashamed of and you try to escape the identity and reputation that
your name attaches you to. Fugitives change their names, con artists
change their names, Comcast changed their name.

Yup, it’s here. Comcast will now answer their phones as “XFinity”. They’re hoping to give a face-lift to the
hurting Comcast brand that has been criticized endlessly on blogs, news stations and popular social network sites. Maybe the biggest blow coming from a YouTube video of a Comcast tech napping on a customers couch. Ouch.
So why the name change? Why not just make “Comcast” a better brand rather than abandoning it. To me it seems the change might be a new source of criticism for their less then impressed critics and customers to feed on. Time magazine has already named the Comcast to Xfinity change number 1 in it’s ranking of top ten worst corporate name changes list. We’ll have to wait to see what the new identity will bring – better products, service or just a flashy new sign outside their office? You can’t create a brand over night, and I’m not sure you can fix one either. Good luck, Comcast. I’ll be watching!
