Cabo Orphanage

I would have to say that one of the highlights of Mayercraft Carrier 2 was getting off of the boat with bands Guster (and their families) and Pictures & Sound to visit an orphanage in Cabo San Lucas.

I woke up a little late that morning and rushed downstairs to meet the people from Reverb and the bands who were going on our little adventure.  Luckily, they hadn’t left yet so we gathered up all of the instruments and headed to shore.  The instruments had been donated to us so that we could in turn give them to the kids.

When we finally got to shore from the tender, there were taxis waiting for us.  When I say taxi, I really mean one 15-passenger van and a Jeep that belonged to the leaders at the orphanage.  We had about 20 people so needless to say it was pretty crammed.  Who would have thought we’d all become so close?  Literally.

Arriving at the orphanage was really amazing.  The kids’ faces lit up as soon as the saw us!  They were so excited that a group of people had come to see them.  They didn’t care about the fame, but they loved the music.  We handed out the musical instruments that we brought with us for the kids to play:  guitars, shakers, tambourines, bongos, and harmonicas.  Guster and Pictures & Sound played and sang familiar songs and the kids all joined in with whatever they could get their hands on.  It was so much fun!

It felt so good to bring the music off the boat and serve the community in Cabo.  Thanks to Guster, their families, Pictures & Sound, and Reverb for putting this together so that we can continue to reach out and change lives.

Great, fantastic and what class!!! Although just a passenger who cannot play any music except on ipod, would like to have opportunity to give back. (I am a physician)

This is an amazing idea and being the mom of an adopted child from overseas and a pediatric nurse, is something near and dear to my heart.
If I am on any cruise where this is done, I would LOVE to go and help, even provide medical care if it was needed or maybe supplies... I did that when I went to Romania to get my daughter and it was so appreciated. This just shows what huge hearts you all have!

I wish I could have volunteered. Please let us know next year how we can be part of this type of event. I'd prefer to brighten the face of a young child, bring them clothes, etc. than lay on a beach! When I go on a regular cruise, I usually bring extra t-shirts, tennis shoes, etc. to "leave behind".

This is something Sixthman is excited about doing more of. Thanks for leading the way Mike.

What a great story! I was thinking while on board that it would be great for next year to some how incorporate giving back to the locals of whatever port we dock in. Looks like I wasn't alone in that thought! Kudos to all who sacraficed getting plastered at Cabo Wabo for doing something for the greater good! Bravo!
