long beachHello from Long Beach, California…the current mobile Sixthman office.  Yes, the picture to the left is my view as I write this.  And it is 70 degrees and sunny.  I love Long Beach already.

The beautiful weather and new location have got me thinking about my own vacation.  With cruise season coming to an end, we’re all antsy to take some time to relax.  At our last staff meeting, Andy demanded (yes, demanded) we all find a chunk of time in the near future to unwind from all of our cruising (that sounds strange…unwind from cruising?  Stay with me) and spend time with friends, significants, etc, and take a good vacation.  Who am I to argue?

So with that in mind, I need some suggestions.  I try to go somewhere new every year…three years ago I got to go to Europe; two years ago I went to San Fran and Napa; last year I went to New Orleans.  This year…I don’t know.  Maybe somewhere beachy?  Wherever it is has to have good food, wine, and scenery.  I like to go places where I know people so I don’t get sucked into the touristy things, and I’m not afraid to ask a friend to be my tour guide ☺  Cost should be moderate for two people, and we’d probably go in early August.  The top choices in my mind right now are San Diego/LA again (since I’m not really going to see it this trip) and Jersey shore/NYC (my sig. other has never been).  Though I could be easily swayed.

You guys travel a lot.  Any ideas of cool places to spend a week?

It doesn’t necessarily fit your requirements, but don’t overlook Alaska.

I took a vacation there last August by myself for a little trip and had an amazing time. It was super cheap (although, I did couch surf a bit, so that saved some money), warm and beautiful. I was only there for three days, so I definitely want to go back and explore more.

May I suggest Cape Cod? :) Come in July/August and I can guarantee that you will love it!

Enjoy your vacay – you deserve some downtime!

I am a Jersey shore guy…Lot of nice beaches there..some less touristy than others..Cape Code is very nice too..I went to the Outer Banks last year and loved that too…not much help huh?

Take a stay-cation and come with me to all the crazy stuff that happens in Atlanta on weeknights. I can find good karaoke every night of the week…. And you can hang out at the Clairmont if you get bored.

Go to LA, then drive up the coast to Santa Barbara and/or San Luis Obispo. There’s great wine near SB, the beaches are beautiful, the food is great and the sunsets, well, it IS CA. I could go on and on with what I love about the central coast of CA.

I’m with Mandy. And would be happy to join you and show you the Santa Ynez and SLO wineries. There are some good ones! :)

    Domestic-
If you drive the Cali coast you must make it all the way to San Fran – anything short would be a missed opportunity.
As far as the east coast, I’d say NC – Wrightsville Beach is very laid back or SC – Myrtle Beach is not…lots of action

    International-
Barbados is what you’re looking for if you’re looking for beach, food, scenery and somewhere different.
Costa Rica is a nature lovers paradise. Hiking, volcanoes, beaches, outdoor fun.
Neither are terribly “touristy”, and both are quite affordable right now – unbelievably affordable – gotta love a deep recession!

Laurie and I are going to a resort just out of Playa Del Carmen, Sep 4 – 12. Lots of beautiful country, large pool with swim-up bar, and a very pristine beach (provided we do not have another hurricane! – we are 4 for 5 having one) and you would be welcome to join in on our fun!

All-inclusive – food, booze, and great fun!

come up to NYC! just do it.

Austin. There’s not a beach, but there is a lake and a ton of great parks and music. And you could stalk Matthew McConaughey or go to the biggest Whole Foods store ever, or hit Waterloo Records which is just about fabulous.

try Ontario. when you leave Toronto you will get away from the crowds find pristine lakes for a variety of adventures. If you want a road trip try the north shore of Lake Superior – outstanding scenery and really getting away from everything.

I second the Cape Cod choice but will add Block Island, RI as well. The only way to Block Island is by plane or ferry. VERY relaxing vacation.

For beaches internationally, I’d second the Barbados suggestion. By far, my favorite island.

    Have fun!
