What Exactly is Port Day?

I have never really gotten off one of our cruises to explore a port – or sanctioned activity – or beach – or tourist attractions – ever.  In fact, most of our staff typically uses the port days as a few extra hours of sleep and recovery before starting up the madness once again.  And because I was on the production team for the first 3 years with Sixthman, I understand every single reasoning behind this. What I don’t understand though, is why we had never gone to Half Moon Cay before. I mean, seriously.

Today… Andy, Melissa, Kappy and I got off the island together to take a small group of folks to a sectioned off part of the island. It was my first real time off the boat since starting with Sixthman, and I can’t imagine any port stop being better. It was amazing.

First, there was a slide. And when are slides EVER a bad thing??! Especially when it’s expected the slide is used by adults only. Then, there were the awesome, huge floating plastic things we were able to lay on while the very scattered clouds made their way across the sky. We all climbed onto a ‘log raft’… and longed after the shark raft 15 yards away another guest had found.

Then, there was the music. I can’t even begin to tell you how please we were with the sound system at the tiki bar. For all you Rock Boaters out there – you are doing yourself an injustice if you don’t gett off the boat and at least hear some great tunes with the beautiful blue water as your backdrop. Fran, Scott, Gareth – and all their friends – thank you for making the music so perfect for our trip today.

THEN – there was the unexpected. Please watch this video. It is super short and sweet, but it combines the gorgeous water, with super talented and humble musicians, amazing people (YOU!) watching and singing along, and the sun shining right on time.

Just watch. That’s all im asking. And ask yourself – if you aren’t booked on one of our events this season – why exactly you wont be joining us and what you can do to make sure you don’t miss out again in 2010.If the video isn’t showing, visit our site and it will be there. It’s been so fun these first 3 days. It will be hard to top this experience, but if anyone can do it, TRB – you can!
