Second Chance to Discover

When we get the chance, my family attends the Buckhead Church in Atlanta. They have a live rock band that performs two or three songs each week before the sermon. This morning was just as any other except for when they rolled out a keyboard at the end of the sermon, a young woman walked out, sat down and blew us all away with a spiritual song. I had no choice but to walk to the stage afterwards against the traffic of people leaving to tell this woman how amazing she was. As I approached, I was thinking that I had to hear this girl sing again and was racking my brain as to how I could make that happen. When I got to the stage, she bent down to say hello and I said, “Hi, my name is Andy and that was unbelievable”. She said, “I know who you are and thank you for having me on Cayamo”. I immediately kicked myself for not recognizing this woman and then kicked myself a second time for not seeing her perform two weeks ago when I had the perfect chance. I have met her before and been given her CD yet I had not listened to discover how good she was. So thank you Meghan. I am looking forward to seeing you play again soon.

It made me think that there are probably some great stories out there about discovering an artist for the first time when you least expected it. Feel free to share…..

My husband and I saw about 10 concerts a day on Cayamo and still feel like we missed so much! We followed our favorites and popped in and out of venues to see bits and pieces of as many shows as we could – I guess next time we need more concerts! Meghan was great and got a spot on my Cayamo ’08 mix I made to share with my music lovin’ friends…just passing on the love!

Well, shame on you, Andy, for not paying more attention to Meghan Coffee before now. She gave some 3 stellar performances on Cayamo. Now that you’re listening to her CD is it safe to hope that you’ll be booking her for next year’s cruise?

At least it shows that you also suffer from ‘the not being able to be in two (or three or four) places at the same time’ curse that effected us all on board! Next year I hope that there will be more music scheduled in the afternoon so that emerging artists, like Meghan, don’t have to compete with the big name performers.

Thanks for making it all happen – I hope you are proud of what you’ve achieved.

I second that! Meghan was great! So was Ernie Halter so many others. Definitely one of the secret treasures of the ship. Being gifted with new music from artists I never had heard of before and building some new relationships.

I am honored to be opening for Ernie tomorrow night at a place here in CA called Plush Cafe’.
We will be doing more of that! I am also going to come out to GA and hopefully do a show with Meghan.

Looking forward to that next year! Hoping to play a set or two myself.

Ditto on the thumbs up to Sixthman!

True, you could not be in three or four places at once, which caused me too,to miss a couple wonderful artist! One of those artist I randomly met one late night in the casino! I talked to him for a while before I realized he was an artist on the ship!!(I thought I had done my research!) Unfortunately, his last show was earlier that day. If that wasn’t bad enough due do the fine drinks I had I couldn’t remember his name! Lucky for me,he found me on myspace and my sister and I have now fallen in love with his music. I only wish I had been able to seen him on the cruise!! Looks like a road trip is in my future!! Then again there is Cayamo 2009!!! Thank goodness for second chances!!!

    Andy,

Better late than never, certainly. Meghan’s a terrific artist — and, as it turns out, a terrific person. Glad you got to see her.
