Mayertime!

John Mayer came, saw, and conquered the Mayercraft Carrier.

The Deck Show was easily one of my favorite moments from all 5 of these cruises. To see virtually all of the 2820 guests on board up on the deck for a single performance was quite the sight. I heard some people spent the night sleeping (or more likely passing out) on deck chairs to make sure they woke up in the front row. I heard other people woke up at 7AM for the 3PM show only to find out they were already in the second row behind the deck sleepers. I heard the last people showed up at 2:45PM and had to stand up by the water slide on deck 12 to make sure they could still have a clear view of our Master of Ceremonies. Then, I sauntered my way through the crowd to the backstage area and heard some kick ass guitar playing as 80% of the crowd (the women) screamed along to every song while the other 20% (the husbands/boyfriends) tried to look as cool as possible by just nodding their heads.

I knew John was good, but GOOD LORD can he shred on the guitar. Though he played a mostly acoustic set with his buddy David Ryan Harris at his side, John still tore it up out there and left every single fan with eyes wide and jaws open. Nobody will ever forget when John decided that he needed that a bathroom break was in order, so he ran off the stage halfway through the set and left David to entertain the crowd with a few solo songs of his own. After taking care of business, he hustled back onto stage, grabbed his guitar, and proceeded to rock everybody’s faces off with the rest of his set. I can’t imagine how many women left that deck dreamy eyed…not just because of his performance, but also because of the fact that John was unfortunately unable to find his shirt before coming up to the deck, and had to play in board shorts. Poor fella.

We packed enough stuff into the three days of the Mayercraft Carrier to kill a small horse (luckily no small horses were harmed in the production of the Mayercraft Carrier), so it’s no wonder how many worn out, exhausted, hung over, tired, but ultimately extremely happy faces I saw this morning when we got off the boat.

John Mayer, you threw one hell of a party (with our help, of course), and for that I salute you.

Everything you said is correct. I laughted my …. off when he said he needed a bathroom break. I have been home x 2 days now and still exhausted but in a good way. I can’t wait to do it again next year…maybe next year could be 5 days instead of 3?

Yeah, it was an amazing trip. Lots of fun, especially for my first cruise. However, my flight back was a nightmare! Couldn’t land at DTW. Had to go to Indianapolis to get fuel. Had a medical emergency when we were landing in Indy. Waited on the plane for a couple of hours before we could take off again.. landed at dtw at 2:30am!

However, so worth it. Can’t wait for next year.

I’m still reelin’ from the adrenalin rush I lived on all weekend (okay and beer and tequila — who am I kidding?). I didn’t get to meet JM but was closer than I ever thought I’d be so that made me very happy! He went over-the-top with his performances, and really made all of us feel as though we were in his house and he was the gracious host. We really felt like he was concerned with everyone just having a good time, and we did!! The Q&A session was an excellent surprise — he was charming, witting and funny, as usual (not to mention adorable). The Lido Deck concert was awesome and I loved that he left to use the restroom! His Sunday concert was amazing – I stood in awe watching him own that guitar song-after-song. The other artists on-board were well-picked and well-suited for the occasion — we loved every minute of every show, and seeing them roaming the ship was very cool. I can’t wait to do it all again next year — I WILL BE BACK!!! . . . as long as he is!!

After this cruise, being a first timer, there is not another that could live up to this! John has set the standard and it is way big. I have to agree with everyone else that the performance he did poolside on the Lido deck was phenominal! No concert, no backstage pass, etc. could beat this totally unplugged experience. Aboard the Mayercarft was completely chill. We had no idea what to expect but it was truely amazing hanging out with everyone. Such cool people everywhere! We are all still recovering from sleep deprevation and alcohol abuse but it was all worth it. Can’t wait to do it again next year cause….”We owe it to ourself.” :)

It was well worth the 10 hour flight from London to hear John and his friends perform on a truly momentus 3 day gig. I have never existed on so little sleep before. It was great to see John rock in the Disco and have Tequila with his fans.
We had an awesome experience on the boat when we got in a lift (sorry elevator…) on Sunday and the whole Oakhurst band walk in with their instruments. Apparently they had been entertaining the queue (sorry line…) trying to get into the second JM concert. BTW Oakhurst were the bluegrass band that played every day in the casino. So we were trapped next to the glass and Oakhurst decide to offer us a private concert in the lift. We just went up and down, till they finished their song. It was fantastic and hillarious to boot.
Two poor things though 1) Cruise was no way long enough (5 days would have been much better) and 2) The band “Soulive” had to cut their Sunday gig unbelieveably short for some totally unknown reason! That band was incredible and would have rocked on till at least 03:00 but they were told to get off by the roadies by 12:30 after having played only about 20 mins!
We went to the Q&A and my husband asked about JM’s exposure in Europe. John was fantastic in the Q&A session and his reply to my husbands question was both intelligent, honest and witty. It was amazing to have John speak directly to us – even if he did mock the entire country for “driving on the wrong side of the road” :o )
John suggested that he may do another cruise next year and we’ll be there for sure! See you all next year – can’t wait.
PS I thought the “disco” music could have been way better…

I definately had the most fun of my life on board the ship. All of John’s performances were spectacular, and like everyone above I can’t wait to do it again next year. I don’t think I have ever drank more and slept less in three days. To top it off, when my friend picked me up from the airport she wanted to go to Mardi Gras. I was already packed, so we turned around and headed for New Orleans. I am definately exausted.

This cruise was more fun than I’ve had in a very long time guys. I wish I had been less shy and mingled more though. There were tons of people there that I’ve been talking to online for years and yet I didn’t make a point of finding them and introducing myself. Duh! Next year, my husband is going with me. He’s more outgoing so that will solve my shy problems!

The Lido deck show was my favorite part. I could listen to John play unplugged like that all afternoon. Longer Lido show next time! I think everybody loved that atmosphere of being outside, relaxed and rocking out with John and company.

The regular JM shows were nuts. People were down in front that had no right to be there and nobody would kick them out. I’m only 5’1 so of course I couldn’t see anything. I was maybe 11 rows back on the floor. I finally just sat down because I couldn’t see anyways and my back was killing me from standing. (mega spinal problems) I think next year, I’ll just request a balcony seat instead.

Sad to say I missed Brandi Carlisle but I did get to see every other band I had wanted to check out and I found some new music for me and a bigger appreciation for some artists I already liked.

Was just the memorable trip of a lifetime and I thank all of you for your hard work and efforts to pull it together. I will be there next year and every year you hold it as long as you guys and John still want to do it. I’m in!

One other mini gripe. Nobody ever checked out my T-shirt for the boarding day contest and other people said the same to me. I’m not saying I should’ve won, but I think the contest should’ve been a bit more formal in that there should’ve been a time and place where people participating in it could have lined up for judging. I know nobody who was judging this contest ever looked at my shirt, much less considered it. That was a little bit of a bummer, but oh well. The first cruise is to work the kinks out right guys? :-)

I left totally exausted, totally happy and wanting more! Mayercraft 2009, here I come! Can’t wait for you to release the info on next year. I hope it’s a day or so longer and that the shows aren’t so close together. I sometimes felt like I had to rush from show to show in order to get a seat. It would’ve been nice to have had enough time to maybe change clothes, grab a drink, something to eat, regroup you know? But it was a blast folks!

I had more fun on the Mayercraft Carrier, than i’ve had in my 48 years.
So happy we all get to do it again next year! John was amazing….the whole
cruise was amazing, so much fun. It felt like I was in Heaven :) Thank you John
and everyone involved for making our dreams come true!
